Submissions


At Globally Rooted, we celebrate cultural and creative heritage around the world. Our purpose is to inspire curiosity and understanding of different people, cultures and places.

Focusing on the physical world, place, cultural identity and travel, we look for essays, photographs, poems and profiles that inspire curiosity and connections to different places around the world.  

We accept contributions from anyone, anywhere in the world with a keen interest in contributions from women and other underrepresented voices.

Submission Guidelines:

The word limit for essay contributions is 1500 words.

We believe in compensating writers, artists and all creatives - each accepted and published piece will receive a small honorarium of USD$40.

We accept creative nonfiction, poetry, and photography. We do not accept fiction contributions. At this time, no pitches or incomplete works are accepted. 

Submissions are accepted from anywhere in the world from people 18 years and older.

Please include a brief third person biography in the body of your email submission (no more than 200 words)

Writers retain full rights to their work. We only accept unpublished work. Publication on personal blogs or websites is an exception.

What we are looking for:

Personal essays and narratives (creative nonfiction), poetry and photo essays that respond to the Issue theme.

Examples of the kinds of contributions we publish

  • Contributions that showcase the Arts & Culture of a place

  • Food features including recipes and food writing that reveals a connection to a place or cultural identity

  • Contributions about Home and what it means to you. Tell us about the places you call home, what the concept of home means to you, memories of home, what sense of place means to you and how you connect to the places you find yourself in,

  • Nature & Landscape Writing. Share your experiences with the physical world, the sense of human consciousness moving through nature, how you connect with the natural environment, and cultural connections to nature.

  • Narratives on Ways of Living, Traditions, Cultural Identity and Heritage

  • Travel features that give us a peek into your favorite places (especially the hidden gems). We want work that goes beyond just describing a place.

  • Profiles of artists, storytellers, artisans that reveal culture and heritage

  • **A note on photo essays: please include photo descriptions. Please include a short note in your email about how the photos relate to the theme of the issue. If accepted, high resolution photos should be provided at 300 DPI.
